چکیده

Abstract Children's remarkable ability to generalize beyond the input and resulting overregularizations/ irregularizations provide a platform for discussion of whether morphology learning uses analogy-based, rule-based, or statistical procedures. The present study, testing 115 children (aged 3 10) on an elicited production task, investigated acquisition irregular distribution in Turkish causative. Results showed that early acquisition, pin down four causative suffixes, engaged comparisons between analogous exemplars. Thereafter tackle irregularity two entertained competing hypotheses yielded overregularizations irregularizations. Overregularizations were instances abstraction across based type frequency; attempts default erroneous micro-generalizations. Negative correlation errors verb frequency suggested recovery from was sensitive token frequency. overgeneralize-then-recover pattern emerged supported integrated account roles analogy, abstraction, learning.

Quest for arthritis-causative genetic factors in the rat.

Experimental rat models of arthritis are extensively studied with a view to understand the genetic underpinnings of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Genome scans using these models have led to the detection of arthritis regulatory quantitative trait loci (QTLs) on all but three chromosomes of the rat. Whereas some of the QTLs are model specific, others overlap between models. Some arthritis susceptib...

Poisoning young minds.

For some neurotoxic chemicals, neurobehavioral effects are now considered to be among the most sensitive end points yet detected, particularly if exposures occur during critical windows of vulnerability. Chemically induced problems with perception and cognitive ability in children can be hard to identify; teasing them out of a host of genetic and sociocultural influences is a difficult task. To...

Shaken baby syndrome: the quest for evidence

Shaken baby syndrome (SBS), characterized by the triad of subdural haemorrhage, retinal haemorrhage, and encephalopathy, was initially based on the hypothesis that shaking causes tearing of bridging veins and bilateral subdural bleeding. It remains controversial. New evidence since SBS was first defined three decades ago needs to be reviewed. Neuropathology shows that most cases do not have tra...
